It occurs to me that I haven't heard fireworks go off in the preceding week to July 4th. Maybe following the holiday, but this will be the first time that I'm aware of that nobody's had the temerity to let them go off early.

...This makes me sad.

Reverence and irreverence (the ideas)
11:37am 25/06/2008

Erin Kassidy
It's been said that reverence and irreverence are the same thing- that one has to feel something about some thing in order to appreciably taunt or honor that that.

I came across a Subgenius quote yesterday that's been rattling around my head that pretty much sums it all up.

"If you didn't laugh, you didn't get it, but if you only laugh, you still didn't get it."

That is all.

The Oblivion Society

So Bunny bought a bunch of books off of the interwebs, one of them being a cute little piece of fiction called "The Oblivion Society." It starts off with the premise of post-apocalyptic nuclear holocaust and gives you a dozen different impossible things before breakfast. It features mutants, zombies, mutant zombies, giant mutant zombies, and all other sorts of strangeness, including a looping broadcast of Zoobilee Zoo. Oh, and DC has been turned into a crater.

Really, it's fun reading. If you have doubts, the cover features a bat-winged redhead with glasses in a black dress riding a nuclear bomb. Doesn't that just *scream* of quality? :D

Reverence took on and beat the first boss of Zul'Aman on the third try. Not quite the first try, but hey, it's still the first night. Took us longer than it should have, but next week we ought to have him down within the time limit and rescue his hostage, too. :D

...Okay, so not quite that drastic, but as bunny put it to me when he came to bed last night after looking at the shower, "You know that short, sharp shower...?"

Long story short, something's gone and backed up the pipes *somewhere* where now we've got a closed loop- and I don't think it's just us that we've got to worry about. From the toilet, it came up in the shower, and it *stinks*. It *tried* to come up in the kitchen sink, which is just disgusting.

Been sick to my stomach, headachey the past few days. Focusing's been hard, and when I try to eat, I end up with nasty acid reflux.

Fun times. x.x

1. Are you a vegetarian? Vegan?
Not at all.  Chicken's too much of a staple for me, and there aren't enough vegetables out there that I like by themselves to feed myself on.

2. What's your favorite food?
Spicy-cheesy-beefy-mac.  Foodcrime.  One pound ground beef, one package of velveeta shells and cheese, add some crushed red pepper and parmesan to take the edge off.

3. White bread or whole wheat?
White, unless it's fresh.  Like, super-fresh.

4. What's for breakfast?
Pancakes and bacon.  Maybe some biscuits and gravy, if I'm feeling my oats.  If I've got the mats and inclination, there's omelets and hash browns.

5. You're making a Dagwood sandwich. What's in it?
Honkey turkey and provolone.

6. What's on your pizza?
Cheese, pepperoni.  Sometimes sausage, green peppers.

7. Coffee, tea, milk, or soda?
Soda, unless I'm in the mood for tea or coffee.  Milk rarely as it gives me headaches.

8. Dark, milk, or white chocolate?
Dark.  There was a contest?

9. Teetotal, beer, wine, or hard liquor?
Teetotal.  Very few alcoholic beverages fit both my taste and wallet.

10. Does cilantro taste like citrus, or like soap?
Smells like soap.  Tastes like soap.

11. Is chorizo the greatest thing ever or is it totally disgusting?
I think someone tried to feed that to me once.  If so, it was uneventful.

12. Do you use garlic like a vegetable or like a spice?
Spice!  Added to a good deal of everything, along with oregano and chili powder and a few other things.  () :)

13. Onions: raw, cooked, or not at all?
Not at all, except for minced- and then cooked through.

14. Does broccoli taste sweet or bitter?
Broccoli has a taste?

15. How do you feel about fish?
I like fish!  They make silly faces in aquariums.  Eating fish, though, is limited to fish sticks at most.

16. How about sushi?
...Except sushi.  Oh, I love nigiri...

17. Fave ethnic cuisine?
Italian.  Given a choice between chinese, indian, etheopian, thai, americana and italian, I'll go back to that like mother's milk.

18. What's your favorite fruit?
Oh, sweety... *cough*  I mean... cherries, probably.

19. Cheese - thumbs up or thumbs down?
Yes!  An old and terrible habit of mine is to eat an entire bar of cheddar.

20. Finally, favorite dessert?
Cheesecake.  c.c

No Iron Man tomorrow.  Bunny has to work late, and the word I was hearing back was 'not happening.'  Elsewise, we're probably going to see it sometime next week.  Anyone interested that wants to do something about it, feel free to drop me a word.

The act of creation

Erin Kassidy
Is fun!  In its own way.

I finally have figured out the design and style of the overcoat I want to make.  White, heavy cloth (denim or some such, probably), inked over in black with a variety of spiral and fractal patterns into it before assembling the bits into an actual coat.  Definitely looking at something with buttons, double-breasted, that trails down to more or less my feet.  Collar's simple- it comes up to just below eye level, and buttons across when it's not folded down or left open.  Definitely would need a belt- have to have something to hang the camera from!- and a pair of pockets across the stomach.

...Now if I can develop the skills to create this thing... :D

Been thinking, of late.  I want to put together my own factional interstellar, far-future game.  I'll need to work from scratch, of course, though I'll probably be putting forward words here and ideas as I come up with them.

Life!
01:00pm 12/03/2008

Erin Kassidy
It's time for something else, something not quite so sorrowful, to top my journal's page. As much as I still think about my guinea pig- a surprising amount, considering my past- I need to put something else on top so I don't see my entry about my piglet's death.

And so, what I've been doing.

Lately, I've kind of fallen back into WoW with a vengeance, sating my drive to organize and do things with that. I've managed to bust my ass and get enough people to cooperate with me to actually have a chance at doing end-game content- at being the one to organize people, get them working with each other, and cooperate somewhat reasonably with each other. To have fun, of course, and to get them where they want to go and wouldn't normally have a shot of getting to it- I'd say much the same boat I'm in, but I've already been offered the round of standing invitations with my priest to be a main healer in half a dozen raiding guilds. In this, it's not just about doing it, but it's about doing it with the people who got me where I am. Loyalty, surprising enough, before boundless ambition.

Of late, I'm the effective guild leader, if only because I'm willing to do it. I started acting like it, and people worked with me, listened to me, and in turn helped me to help them. I won't say I'm not ambitious in the game- I totally am, amusingly enough- but I can't abuse people to do it. I can coerce to my heart's content, but I can't even try to abuse people... and it's kind of paying off. It's really, really nifty to hear people say that, because of what I've put together, they're having a good time. n.n

Corbin Dallas: Thanksgiving Day, 2001- February 12, 2008

He was wheeting, last night. Talking to us, being lively and active.

An hour ago, he started falling down for no reason. Shortly thereafter he stopped being able to breathe well, and then at all. He went in the arms of Chris, holding him and keeping him safe to the very end. I did what I could. He was stubborn to the last.

I'll miss my guinea pig.

He'll be buried alongside his sister.

...The moment I feel like things are getting better, something happens.

Corbin fell down today in his cage. I was going to put a treat in by his food bowl, and he turned to get it and fell down. Got back up immediately, but... he's never just fallen down before. You can probably understand why I'm worried.

He's over six years old, now- approaching six and a half, now. For all estimates, he's a very, very old guinea pig- he's not had a bad run at all for being the kid of a 'teenage mother pet shop guinea pig'.

He's wheeting at me right now. He at least doesn't feel bad, I take this to mean.

The guinea pig is almost back to normal, now. I flipped out yesterday online... and by that evening he was back to eating pellets from the food bowl. From the looks of things he likes the new water bottle he's gotten as well; easier for him to get to. We still have the medicines to give him, of course, but... he's doing well, as far as I can tell.

For those of you who somehow don't know, Corbin Dallas is my guinea pig. Two weeks ago he'd stopped eating, and so we took him to the vet to get his teeth fixed.

He still hasn't started eating right again. He'll eat something we got from the vet, called Critical Care, like it's going out of style- which is sad, because we don't have a pipeline for it. Pellets, drinking water from the bottle... no. He won't open his mouth, won't use his teeth for much more than the softest of stuff. He's on the verge of dehydrating himself again, and I'm scared for him.

He was meant to be on some medicine to get his digestive tract working. It was fine... until today, the day after we stopped the medicine, because the time was out on it- it was only supposed to be given to him for five days, and today's day seven.

I don't want to let him go. I want to think he's on the mend- he's talkative again, he's actually making noises without trouble, telling us when he gets his treats... but he's refusing to eat almost anything he's had in the past. Even as a pet, he's important to me, and I don't want to lose that part of my life. But I'm afraid that it's getting on that time regardless. ;.;

I'm not giving up on him yet, but I'm practically at wit's end about him. x.x
